Kimberly PowellDirector of Programming and Production, Morning Host
Kimberly Powell joined the staff at KUCO as a part-time host in September of 2007 and assumed the role of Director of Production and Syndication in March of 2008, Assistant Director of Programming in July of 2011 and Director of Programming in 2014. On-air she serves as the station's mid-morning host and the producer and host of Performance Oklahoma, the station's weekly showcase of local recitals and concerts. Offering new and creative production for event and underwriting promotion as well as for station fund raising, Kimberly has established excellent working relationships with representatives of music and arts organizations throughout the state. Recognized as a savvy and thoughtful interviewer she has hosted many guests to the KUCO studios and off site she has met and interviewed a number of the world's leading musical artists. In her role in Programming she joins the General Manager and Music Director in securing the best in classical music radio programming available, oversees the evening and weekend programming automation schema, working to ensure it best represents the station’s commitment to excellence and has streamlined the transfer of programming utilizing the station’s network. She is currently overseeing general operations, working closely with the station's consulting engineers and she keeps an eye on the station's marketing and promotion. In 2009 Kimberly was profiled by Fine Arts Editor Rick Rogers in the Sunday Oklahoman and her Performance Oklahoma program spotlighting the re-emergence of the organ building and performance program at the University of Oklahoma was nominated for a Red Bud Award. In 2010, Kimberly featured in The Journal Record in an article about the station by Terry Clark. And in 2013, Kimberly received the Oklahoma Governor's Media in the Arts Award.
Kimberly came to the job with 25 years of work as a professional collaborative pianist and coach appearing with artists and performers around the country in concerts and master classes and on the National Public Radio series Performance Today. Kimberly holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University and pursued post-graduate private study with the distinguished English pianist Benjamin Kaplan in London.
