KUCO presents:

The Metropolitan Opera (the "Met") is an opera company based in New York City, resident at the Metropolitan Opera House, located at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.  It is the largest classical music organization in North America . Several operas are presented in new productions each season along with revivals of productions from previous seasons.

The operas in the Met's repertoire consist of a wide range of works, from 18th century Baroque and 19th century bel canto to the minimalism of the late 20th Century. These operas are presented in staged productions that range in style from those with elaborate traditional decors to others that feature modern conceptual designs.

The Met's performing company consists of a large symphony-sized orchestra, a chorus, children's choir, and many supporting and leading solo singers. The company also employs numerous free-lance dancers, actors, musicians and other performers throughout the season. The Met's roster of singers includes both international and American artists, some of whose careers have been developed through the Met's young artists program. While many singers appear periodically as guests with the company, others, such as Renée Fleming and Plácido Domingo, have long maintained a close association with the Met, appearing many times each season.

The prayers of a desperate woman are answered in the form of a noble warrior in Richard Wagner’s “Lohengrin,” which contrasts the lust for power with the search for faith. Join us this Saturday, September 28th at noon for the San Francisco Opera broadcast of “Lohengrin,” hosted by Lane Whitesell. Brandon Jovanovich, a first-rate Wagner tenor plays the title role opposite soprano Camilla Nyland.


Join us this Saturday, September 21 at noon for the San Francisco Opera broadcast of Mozart’s final opera, “The Magic Flute,” starring tenor Alek Shrader, sopranos Heidi Stober and Albina Shagimuratova, and baritone Nathan Gunn. Lane Whitesell is your host.


Join us this Saturday at noon for the San Francisco Opera broadcast of “Moby-Dick,” composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer’s adaptation of Herman Melville’s meditation on man and the sea. Tenor Jay Hunter Morris leads the cast in the role of Captain Ahab joined by baritone Morgan Smith as Starbuck and tenor Stephen Costello as Greenhorn (Ishmael). Lane Whitesell hosts.


The tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet inspired some of Shakespeare’s finest verse and some of Vincenzo Bellini’s most beautiful melodies. Join us this Saturday at noon for the San Francisco Opera broadcast of Bellini’s “The Capulets and the Montagues.” This bel canto masterpiece features international stars Joyce DiDonato and Nicole Cabell. KCSC’s Lane Whitesell is your host.


San Francisco Opera presents Die Walkure, the second installment of Richard Wagner’s epic Der Ring des Nibelungen this Saturday, August 31 at noon. Celebrated sopranos Nina Stemme and Eva-Marie Westbroek star as Brunnhilde and Sieglinde respectively alongside baritone Mark Delavan as Wotan and tenor Christopher Ventris as Siegmund.
