This week Performance Oklahoma presents two remarkable programs:  The first featuring pianist Vladimir Feltsman and the second showcasing the Tokyo String Quartet!

I  Vladimir Feltsman

The New York Times writes:  “Whatever else might be said of Vladimir Feltsman, he has become a master at reinventing himself.”   One of the most versatile and constantly interesting musicians of our time, Vladimir Feltsman appeared on the final concert of the 2011 season offered by Oklahoma City University’s Distinguished Artist Series.  The one hour program, given on Tuesday, April 12th in the Petree Recital Hall featured works by Bach, Schubert, Liszt/Schumann and Chopin.  We’ll hear the complete recital as well as provocative commentary from Mr. Feltsman who speaks about his love of the music of Bach, the merits of hearing music without comment and his passion for his international summer institute Piano Summer

II  Tokyo String Quartet

In the second hour of the broadcast we’ll hear a special program devoted to the Tokyo String Quartet.  After 43 years, the ensemble has performed together for the final season during which they appeared as guests of Chamber Music Tulsa performing two concerts at Tulsa’s Performing Arts Center.   Performance Oklahoma presents extraordinary commentary from violist Kazuhide Isomura, who talks about the founding, history and character of the ensemble, the art of mentoring young quartets and the music.  And we’ll hear excerpts from the Tokyo String Quartet’s Sunday, October 21st performance of quartets by  Haydn, Bartók, and Mendelssohn.

Tune in Wednesday evening at 8 to enjoy both extraordinary programs right here at Classical KCSC/KBCW!
