Brightmusic Festival 2016 - Concert 1

Welcome to a brand new season of programs on Performance Oklahoma showcasing the high caliber, richness and variety of classical music performances taking place across our state.  I’m your host, Kimberly Powell and we’ll begin our journey together with the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble now marking their 14th season.   Brightmusic Society president David Johnson welcomed audience members to the opening of the 2016 Chamber Music Festival held this past June, the series of four concerts showcasing The Music of Vienna.  This week we begin with Concert 1, given on Thursday, June 9th, all performances taking place at 7:30pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Oklahoma City.  The first concert program offers a potpourri of shorter musical works to kick off the Society's 5th annual chamber music festival and featured the Piano Trio Hoboken XV:16 for flute cello and piano by Franz Joseph Haydn, Beethoven's Twelve Variations on a Theme from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, Three Penny in the Dark for clarinet, cello and piano by Anton Giulio Priolo, an arrangement of music by Kurt Weill, the Adagio and Rondo Concertante of Franz Schubert for piano quartet, Die Eiserne Brigade for piano quintet by Arnold Schoenberg and the Kaiser Walzer of Johann Strauss II arranged by Schoenberg for piano septet!
