Augustin Hadelich

and the OKC Philharmonic in Classics 2!

Tracing its roots to the city’s first professional orchestra in 1924, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic formed in 1988 with the help of dedicated civic leaders and corporations and celebrates 27 years of performances in Oklahoma City.  Under the musical direction of Joel Levine, the orchestra performs Classics, orchestral Pops, and Discovery Family concerts, as well a variety of community engagements.

The Philharmonic offered the second Classics concert of their 27th season on Saturday, October 17th at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City.  Led by music director Joel Levine, the Philharmonic presented a program entitled "Tall Tales, Magic and Majesty" featuring guest violinist Augustin Hadelich in the Violin Concerto of Jean Sibelius.  Also on the program The Sorcerer's Apprentice of Paul Dukas, the Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks of Richard Strauss.  Mr. Hadelich. now regarded as one of the finest violinists of his generation and who has been selected from a roster of young artists performing at Carnegie Hall last season as the winner of the new Warner Music Prize offers fascinating commentary about Sibelius, the concerto and how he keeps his music-making fresh!
