Gloria!  Christmas Vespers 2016

 Oklahoma City University

Celebrating its 38th season, Oklahoma City University offered it's annual Christmas Vespers featuring more than 275 University singers and  instrumentalists who gathered to offer the service designed to acknowledge the Advent season.  A collage of music, much of it from the great choral composers of this century and centuries past also includes songs and carols from many traditions; each of these works prefaced by a reading of scripture or poetry.  Offered in two services, the first given on Friday, December 9th at 7:30pm and the second which we will hear in this broadcast presented on Saturday, December 10th at 4pm, at First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City, both performances featured four University choirs, organist Melissa Plamann, guest narrator Robert Spinks , the OCU Vespers Orchestra, and conductors Randi von Ellefson, Tony Gonzalez and Eric Garcia.

This season the large three-movement Gloria by John Rutter provided both the title of the service and form with selections of music chosen for one of three parts of the service, the  prelude, meditation and festive conclusion.  And the service concludes with its traditional candlelit recessional Night of Silence.  Christmas Vespers 2016 will be heard without interruption in a one time broadcast only on Wednesday, December 21st at 8pm on Classical KUCO!
