This is the first of two broadcasts of the Marriage of Figaro this year, with two different casts. The january cast is Ryan McKinny (Figaro), Lucy Crowe (Susanna), Golda Schultz (Countess Almaviva), Adam Plachetka (Count Almaviva), Isabel Leonard (Cherubino), Elizabeth Bishop (Marcellina), Maurizio Muraro (Dr. Bartolo)
01/08/22 Terence Blanchard: Fire Shut up in my Bones
This performance was recorded last fall and was seen as an HD broadcast then. The opera is an adaptation of Charles Blow's memoir of growing up in the South.
01/01/22 Massenet: Cinderella
This will also be an HD broadcast of an abridged version of Cendrillon, in English, for the holiday season.
12/25/21 Aida: a retrospective
Selections from the past 90 years of Aida as preserved from Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts. Pictured is Zinka Milanov, a leading Aida from the late 1930's through the 1950's.
December 18. Mozart: The Magic Flute
The holiday favorite returns with Matthew Polenzani as Tamino, Hera Hyesang Park as Pamina, and Kathryn Lewek as her mother, the Queen of the Night. The surprise cast member is tenor Rolando Villazon as Papageno.
December 11. Puccini, Tosca
The return of Tosca with Sandra Radvanovsky, playing to a number of tenors and baritones this year.
