2018-2019 Operas within Driving Distance

December 14. Tchaikovsky: The Queen of Spades

December 14. Tchaikovsky: The Queen of Spades
Larissa Davidova sings the title character, actually a countess, who knows she will die if she gives up the secret of the three cards which won her a great fortune many years ago. Hermann is her granddaughter's suitor who learns that she knows the secret and wants it.

December 7. Philip Glass: Akhnaten

December 7. Philip Glass: Akhnaten
Emperor Akhenaten introduces monotheism to Egypt; the priests do not like it. Anthony Roth Costanza is Emperor Akhenaten. J'Nai Bridges is Nefertiti and Dísella Lárusdóttiris Queen Tye.

November 30. Bottesini: Ali Baba

Opera Southwest has presented several operas which have needed reconstruction from original parts over 100 years old, including Faccio's Amleto, in the past few years. This is another opera which had been nearly destroyed with its orchestration reduced for puppet theater, and for which the original materials had to be carefully researched. Monica Yunus sings the role of Delia, Ali Baba's love.

November 23. Bellini: Norma

Lindsay Ohse and Olivia Vote star as Norma and Adalgisa in Opera Southwest's orma.

November 16. Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro

This is a performance first broadcast in Milwaukee in September, 2016.

November 9. Faccio: Amleto

This is a repeat of the performance that was broadcast last year from Opera Delaware. It is a VERY different take on Shakespeare from the Thomas version of Hamlet.

2 November. Puccini: Gianni Schicchi, and Ching: Buoso's Ghost

This double bill finished out Opera Delaware's celebration of the 100th anniversary of the world premiere of Il Trittico and added a modern one-acter to fill out the double bill, loosely based on the continuing story of the characters in Gianni Schicchi.
