Classics 6 "From the Dramatic to the Sublime" 

Performance Oklahoma marks its 10th anniversary year of broadcasts and this week, we'll hear the OKC Philharmonic with Alexander Mickelthwate in Classics 6.  The program, "From the Dramatic to the Sublime," presented on Saturday, February 1st is the first of a series of concerts and events this season in our community commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Murrah Building bombing and presents two commissioned works for orchestra and chorus; “The Limits of Almost” by Matthew Patton and “Of Thee I Sing” by Jonathan Leshnoff as well as commentary from Maestro Mickelthwate and special guest speaker Donna Weaver who lost her husband in the tragedy in 1995.  Also featured on the program is the second piano concerto of Frederic Chopin with guest pianist Angela Cheng and the Passacaglia and Fugue in c minor of Johann Sebastian Bach as transcribed for orchestra by Leopold Stokowski.   The broadcasts are also offered in memory of violinist Michael Reaves, who passed away on Monday, February 24th.
