OKC Philharmonic

Classics 7

Welcome back to Performance Oklahoma, the program now marking its 10th anniversary year of broadcasts.  I’m Kimberly Powell.   This week we’ll hear the OKC Philharmonic with Alexander Mickelthwate play Symphony No. 7 in E Major of Anton Bruckner, the performance offered in Classics 7 "Colliding Contrasts" presented on Saturday, February 29th at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City.  Bruckner was one of the most notable composers in the second half of the 19th century, celebrated for his majestic symphonies and sacred compositions, famous for their large-scale harmonies and forms.  Although his music is largely influenced by Wagnerian orchestration and harmonic structure, Bruckner remained firmly rooted in the traditions of his predecessors Schubert and Beethoven.
