Canterbury Voices

This week Performance Oklahoma offers a special program for Holy Week and Easter featuring Canterbury Voices, guest soloists and members of the OKC Philharmonic, taking the stage at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City on Sunday December 8th to present George Frideric Handel’s Messiah.  Handel’s best known oratorio was originally an Easter offering, premiering in the season of Lent in 1742, the first third of the work concerning the birth of Jesus, the second, his death and the third his resurrection.  In the performance we’ll hear today, Canterbury Voices presents the rescoring with large and expanded orchestra prepared by Eugene Goossens in 1959.  Guest soloists include soprano Autumn West, alto Rebekah Ambrosini, tenor Jeffrey Picón and bass Thomas Cannon and the performance is conducted by Artistic Director Randi von Ellefson.
