Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble

Concert 5

“It is quite certain that when I am in Salzburg I long for a hundred amusements, but here not for a single one. For just to be in Vienna is itself entertainment enough," wrote 25-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1781 from the imperial capital to his father, Leopold, in Salzburg.  The two great Austrian cities continue to be closely associated with him—Salzburg, the city of his birth and early career, and Vienna, seat of the Hapsburg empire, where he spent his most creative years.  Salzburg now hosts one of the most prestigious Festivals associated with the composer nearing its 100th anniversary in 2020.  And since the fall of communism in Eastern Europe in 1989, Vienna has returned to its status as the geographical center of Europe and has regained its cosmopolitan feel, energy and its sophisticated cultural offerings, all that seem to inspire Mozart in the decade he lived there.  On Tuesday, April 16th the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble presented its final concert of the regular season at St. Paul’s Cathedral in downtown Oklahoma City, the program titled:  Mozart:  From Salzburg to Vienna and featuring four chamber works by the composer scored for various combinations of clarinet and strings.
